The most accessible text is Open Veins of Latin America by Eduardo Galeano. The mid range book is The Dominion of War: Empire and Conflict in America, 1500-2000 by Fred Anderson and Andrew Cayton. The most difficult choice is The Long Twentieth Century by Giovanni Arrighi. This clip features a description of each book.
