Description:"Leaders in Luxury" Event Debuts New Research on America’s AffluentFrom Hawaii to New Mexico, and Canada to Florida, almost 100 of the top real estate professionals working in the upscale residential market converged last week in Miami’s South Beach (FL) at The Institute for Luxury Home Marketing’s annual Leaders in Luxury (LIL) conference where they were the nation’s first real estate professionals to hear research highlights from The Mendelsohn Affluent Survey 2008, presented at the conference by Bob Shullman, President of Ipsos Mendelsohn. This important research tracks the attitudes, activities, and buying patterns of the wealthy. According to Sakara K. Blackwell -- a real estate professional from Optimum Realty LLC -- who attended the meeting, the exclusive LIL event is an invitation-only educational and networking opportunity for real estate agents who market million and multi-million dollar homes and estates.Other highlights of the conference included a presentation from high-end homebuilder and author, Frank McKinney, who prefers to be billed as "The Maverick Daredevil Real Estate Artist." McKinney who builds homes priced from $35 million to more than $100 million, talked about selling experiences and lifestyle. Other speakers and panelists for the event discussed a variety of topics, including an update on the "must have" features and amenities at the top of the market, how to use blogging to build business, how to write real estate copy Madison Avenue style, and how to create more marketing value with fewer dollars."Leaders in Luxury registration is specific to agents in the luxury home niche," said Laurie Moore-Moore, Founder of The Institute for Luxury Home Marketing. "This gives LIL attendees the opportunity to build an exclusive network of contacts focused on the upscale residential industry while sharing with the best in the business. Since competency is the key to working successfully with the luxury buyer and seller," added Moore-Moore, "LIL is designed to provide attendees with important knowledge and insights, giving them a competitive edge in meeting the needs of the affluent.Blackwell considers attendance at Leaders in Luxury to be essential for success in today’s marketplace. "Attending the Leaders in Luxury event is an investment for my clients," said Blackwell. "With the current real estate market, I have to be proactive to stay on top of the industry. By networking with the best in the business, sharing ideas, and learning about the latest trends and outlooks, I can help my affluent clients find success where others are finding challenges." Blackwell will serve on the Board of Directors for Leaders in Luxury 2009 to be held at the Four Seasons in Austin, Texas next October.About The Institute of Luxury Home Marketing:The Institute trains real estate professionals who work in the luxury home market internationally and awards the Certified Luxury Home Marketing Specialist designation. Title:Josh King
Date:Wed, 10 Dec 2008 07:03:57 PST

Description: Last Thursday started a series of adventures without notice of any kind. Hilton and I were working on the laptops when he received a call from Josh King...he and a friend, Christian, were at HNL with a flight delay of seven hours. Being the aloha ambassadors we are, we dropped everything, picked them up and headed to the Yardhouse for lunch...and martinis :o) Over martinis, we decided that since Josh didn't have to be back to work in LA until Monday he would stay the weekend...yeah. So we made our way back to HNL to get his bags, drop off Christian who had to catch the flight and hope-hope change his flight without the $175 charge. Mahalo Pikake! The next day I had still had some things to do which included viewing the suites at the Sheraton Waikiki for the FIABCI Regional Congresses we are hosting here in Hawaii in October 2008. This is the view from one of the suites...breathtaking. That evening we planned to take a sunset sail on our friend Jeff and Sunny's yacht which always ends in a fireworks show put on by the Hilton Hawaiian Village. As we sailed out to the point at Diamond Head, the Coast Guard informed us that the area between Magic Island and DH was currently deemed a search and rescue area and we had to turn around and head back west. This sunset is dedicated to Sergio Goes, a renowned photograper and old friend of mine whom I hadn't seen in over a decade. I met Sergio when I was an 18-year-old party promoter, pre-nightclub life. I used to feature his photos on a slide machine that I rented and projected onto a white sheet for ambiance. The day after the sunset, I received a text message from Christa that his body had been found off Waikiki while free-diving and taking underwater photos. If you don't read far enough to see the comments, please make note:A memorial will be held to scatter ashes at Kaimana Beach on Saturday, July 19th at 7:00 AM. Please join us on the beach, paddle or swim out and bid farewell to our friend. Next month the Goes family from Brazil will be in town for Sergio’s“Celebration of Life”, which will also be a fundraiser for his son Gabriel. Details to come. Cards and condolences can be mailed to Andrea Torres, 1260B Saint Louis Drive, Honolulu, HI 96816.** The family request that television crews please respect the privacy of this memorial. Media filming is NOT welcome**After much deliberating, we decided on a Saturday lunch at The Kahala Resort. Lunch was not good but the setting more than made up for it.After lunch we set-up in the loungers and Josh immediately took a nap.We had Destiny with us so Uncle Hilton taught all the kids how to back flip off the float deck.We raced over to Bowls/Rock Piles/Kaisers to shoot Taryn and Steve surfing for the preview issue of our quarterly magazine. The preview issue is going to more newsletter-ish, as it is only six pages as planned, but its purpose is to give potential advertisers a feel for the quality, design and content. Originally we were going to go to print but I decided, based on timelines, that an online version for Summer would be better. Pei agreed. We also wanted a "trial-run" of sorts to work out the bugs before we launch in the Fall. Still, we only plan to be 8-12 pages, adding on additional pages as we grow.Saturday night I tracked down Flash at his event at RumFire. I am trying to plan an event for the FIABCI Young Professionals during the FIABCI Regional Congresses in October 2008. So, we confirmed the bottle-service fire pits which look out over the ocean with the pool on the ewa side. Should be fun.One of our favorite past times is the circle island tours on Harleys. For over five years now, we've been renting Harleys from Vern at Cruzin' Hawaii in Waikiki. Its mandatory that I have a Road King...mandatory. Of course, I can't go a full day without something to do with real estate. On our road, we met Taryn at our Makaua Village #216 property for sale in Kaaawa to take aerial photos with Urban of SkyCam Hawaii. It was a gorgeous skies...awesome. Poor Urban's son, he was in charge of the camera remote. Me and Taryn were probably rattling that poor boy trying to get the shot...but he got it...lots of it.So, we headed out for Waimea Bay after the photo shoot and it was packed. We should have gone to Keiki Beach but I wanted Josh to see Waimea in the summer...and the water was sooooo refreshing. There was plenty of traffic from Waimea to Haleiwa so we decided to head back to town the same way we came, up the east coast then cut through Likelike Highway. Not a bad Sunday ride...not at all.

Description:In general, Hilton and I eat pretty well -- we shop at Kokua Market, Hawaii's only natural foods co-operative in Moilili near the University of Hawaii for our fruits and vegetables and Down to Earth, a natural foods market down the street from Kokua. Down to Earth has a free cutomer rewards program and you receive a re-usable shopping bag for join.Typically we buy only organic and we prefer local. Hilton has been using organic soaps and toiletries for over a year now, maybe more. I have finally made it past the halfway point in the switchover with the only products I can't give up yet being my La Therapie toner and night cream + my MAC make-up. We have switched to organic cleaners, soaps and detergents though. This happended very recently and I am still not sure that they clean as well as chemical detergents but we're trying and we still LOVE our Simple Green. I had to do some research for an upcoming project on the Nature Coservancy website and I found this carbon calculator. I wasn't suprised about being below the US average since we recycle EVERYTHING, don't eat meat or poultry and ride our bicycles most of the time. What I was shocked about was that we are three times higher than the world average. Granted, we have flown six long flights and eight short flights in the past year which really added to our score.Check it out:Our Results (calculated carbon footprint for our entire household)Emissions Comparison Tons of CO2 eq/year33Your Estimated Emissions (2 person household)53United States Average per Person (2 person household)11World Average per Person (2 person household)Your estimated greenhouse gas emissions are 33 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalent per year, which is below the U.S. national average.-->To reduce your climate impact, there are many simple things you can change in your everyday behavior that will make a big difference in the fight to slow climate change:• Offset Your Carbon Footprint• Learn More about Nature Conservancy Offsets• Read our Climate-Saving Tips• More Actions Offsetting your carbon footprint with The Nature Conservancy will sequester carbon over the next 70 years.
